The Gods & Goddess

The table below contains brief descriptions only. The lore and mythology of the Norse Pantheon is extensive, and this is by no means a complete A-Z list.

Goddess

Frigg: Asynia-Goddess of marriage, fertility and childbirth. She was the daughter of Fjorgvin. Frigga is the All-Mother and Queen of Asgard

Freyja: Vanir-Aesir-Goddess of sexual union, fertility, and magic. Freyja is known for a number of things, and is seen as one of the most beautiful goddess.

Fulla: Asynia-Sister of Frigga. Fulla carried Frigga’s chest that was filled with bounty. Fulla was Frigg’s attendant. No matter how powerful a god or goddess, no one could see Frigg in Fensalir without her permission.

Gefjon: Asynia-Goddess of agriculture. Gefjon was also called Gefion, Gefiun or Gefinn. Gefjon was also the goddess of fertility. Gefjon may have been a virgin goddess, who was a patron goddess and protectress of the virgins after deaths.

Idun: Asynia- Goddess of youth and spring. Idun (Idunn) was the keeper of the golden apples of youth, that kept the gods young and immortal. She is married to Bragi

Jord: Jötun-Asynia: Goddess of the Earth

Sif: Asynia-goddess of the harvest, and wife of Thor

Rind: Jötun-Asynia-goddess of the drowned

Thrud: Asynia-daughter of Sif and Thor. Thrud is considered to be a fierce warrior woman

Other: Gerd, Saga, Eir, Siofn, Lofn, Var, Vor, Syn, Snotra, Hlin, Gna, Bil

Gods

Balder: Æsir-son of Odin and Frigga. Balder was know for his light/innocence/purity etc. He was killed by miseltoe and is currently residing in Helhome

Bragi: Æsir-god of poetry. There is some debate on whom his parents are. Some speculate that Odin is his father, but their is no proof.

Freyr: Æsir-Vanir-Alf-god of fertility, the fields etc. Freyr was venerated for his male sexuality that is very similar to the ideas of the green man

Forseti: Æsir-son of Balder and Nanna. Forseti is known as the god of justice and order

Heimdall: Æsir-son of 9 mothers. Heimdall is considered to be the great guardian of Asgard. He keeps watch at the bridge and warns the gods of enemy activity

Hermod: Æsir-messanger of the gods

Hod: Æsir-blind god. Hod was the son of Odin and Frigga who “accidentally” killed Balder

Loki: Æsir-Jötun-trickster god. Loki is known for many things, but most commonly refered to as the trickster god or the sly god

Magni: Æsir-son of Thor. His mother is debated. Sometimes his mother is mentioned as Sif, sometimes Thor’s first wife/mistress Járnsaxa.

Mani: Unknown-god of the moon

Mimir: Æsir-Jötun. Mimir is thought to be the wisest of gods, even far surpasing Odin in wisdom and knowledge.

Modi: Æsir-son of Thor. His mother is debated. Sometimes his mother is mentioned as Sif, sometimes Thor’s first wife/mistress Járnsaxa.

Njord: Vanir-Æsir. Njord is another god of the sea. Not entirely sure what the difference is between Njord and Aegir

Odin: Æsir. Chief of the gods. Odin is known for so many things. He is refered to as the All-Father and reigns as king of Asgard

Thor: Æsir-son of Odin by Jörd an earth giant. Thor became the god of thunder and lightning as well as the god of agriculture. He was very popular amoung the lower classes and Thor was venerated throughout several generations of ancient Europeans.

Tyr: Æsir-possibly the son of Odin. Tyr was seen as the sky god and god of war and justice. He lost his hand to the Fenris wolf and is known as “the one handed god”

Ull: Æsir-son of Sif, father is unknown. Ull is the god of justice,hunting and dueling. He was an excellent archer and taught man how to ski and invented snowshoes

Vali: Æsir-son of Odin and the giantess Rind. Known as Balder’s Avenger he killed Hod in retaleation for the death of Balder

Ve (Lodur): Æsir-son of the giants Bor and Bestla. He gave the gifts of senses and outward appearance to the first man and woman.

Vidar: Æsir-son of Odin and the giantess Grid. Vidar was known as the silent god, because he rarely talks. Vidar was thought of as second strongest after Thor. He lived in Brushwood. His mother gave him special iron shoes that would protect him from the Fenris wolf. According to the lore, he would avenge his fathers death by slaying Fenrir.

Vili (Hoenir): Æsir-son of the giants Bor and Bestla. He gave the gifts of spirit and understanding to the first man and woman.
