    Crafting

Just made Heathen Artisans! Tell your friends, this page is an awesome place to find fellow crafters and artisans that are all heathen: Heathen Artisans

I want to thank the people that were nice enough to take a photo of the cloth made for them and send it to me. My very good friends in Germany were I think, quite happy with the result. So, here is the lovely photo of the Nine Worlds Cloth on Display.

Another example of changes that occur when you discover two factors: dark cloth and too detailed of an image. The fabric chosen was dark chocolate brown broadcloth, and it was very, very dark, so dark in fact it was hard to get an image to trace onto it, as the light I used to illuminate the pattern was almost absorbed completely by the fabric, and made it very hard. So another lesson I learned until I become so dam good that I just free hand everything is this:

Use see through fabric colors like creams or light grey, but make sure you can visibly see light through the fabric, the darker the color the harder it is to see the pattern and although that would not be a problem if you were an expert level embroidery pro that knew all the stitches, but it is not the stitches exactly but the overall that I think most embroidery people actually still use. This one was surprisingly challenging, but very smooth. I had little problem connecting with Tyr but wonder if the problems with the Heimdallr cloth were because I don’t really work with him, and found him hard to peg in my head while crafting, I seriously feel now after doing several of these that certain gods are easier to call forth in crafting, and perhaps IMO this could be a good way to attune to different gods by working crafts for gods that you have no personal relationship with (smells another theory brewing):-D

I have now put all the cloths into a photo gallery:

Just to show how much change happens when you start a project only to find you seriously make a mess of it and end up with something completely unexpected.

Okay to explain, I started working on this Heimdallr cloth, and I stupidly used permanent marker to make the stitch outline…yeah okay…stupid, but I was in a bit of a panic, and could not figure out how I was going to get the intricate picture onto the cloth without going into deep levels of madness! A griffin sits upon the tree and watches carefully over Midgard, representing the ever watchful eye of Heimdallr, his horn lays at the side waiting and poised ever ready for use! At any minute the horn may sound calling the warriors into battle.

Now all photos of the cloths are in a gallery, so people can see all of them within a gallery

You know, I always believed in the barter system. mostly it does work out, and is an excellent way to get things in exchange for little things that you might want! So, I was really happy to find out the the Heathen Crafters group on Facebook was very open to the idea! I was happy to see how many people were willing to trade and look forward to negotiating a few goodies for myself! So, I would like to extend that offer to people who drop by here, if you practice a craft and have interest in exchanging, I would love to connect! Hail all crafters! Crafting is certainly a very deep expression of spirituality as many of those who craft things seem to call upon the gods for inspiration or use their knowledge of these gods in their work! I really love working with my hands and I am glad I decided to just try out embroidery, because I really found something that came naturally to me, now it is very easy to design and create things…and has been a way for me to sit comfortably somewhere with my thoughts, to think about my god and kind of have a moment of quiet contemplation to consider things, in a way it is a good moment to be alone with my thoughts and focus on one craft.

I wanted to post some samples of future work, to show sort of a before and after of my work. I will show the post production and then finished piece as they get finished.
